Comments:

After graduate school worked for World Vision International abroad. After return to USA worked with Colorado Springs Public Schools, and with Dallas, TX Public Schools from 1989 until forced by poor health to retire in August, 2015.

I've used my middle name Alexander (Alex) for many years now. When I began teaching school in the early 80's, I got really tired of hearing the "Special Ed" (from Eddie) joke from my students, so I switched to Alex fast. One of those quick pivots teachers learn.

UPDATE: By God's grace my health has improved enough to be discharged from home hospice care in early summer 2017. My 30+ year struggle with Lupus (SLE) continues to cause multiple health challenges, but my heart function has improved enough...my cardiologist can't believe it!...to continue on without home care at this point. Still hangin' in there, you guys!

School Story:

My older sister Ellen (Class of '66) somehow kept the copy of my '67 Yearbook, and brought it to a family get together in Cashiers, NC last summer when I was still strong enough to travel. Were we ever really that young...that strong...had that much hair? ?

I remember on graduation day back in June 1967, that I couldn't wait to move on; see new places; experience new adventures; interact with new people. I've done all that, as we all have. But looking back at all of us as 17/18 year olds in the yearbook, was there ever another time we shined so brightly?!

Eddie was a kind and gentle soul. It was evident to those of us who knew him all those years ago. His obituary is a testament to the boy we knew and the man he became.
