OK, Here 'tis: Out where I live now,in the Blue Ridge Mountains above Mt. Airy, the name "Broughton" has a whole different meaning than it does in Raleigh............
If you have been to Broughton around these parts, it means that you were released from the state mental hospital in the western part of the state. Folks at Broughton out here are crazy, but folks at Raleigh Broughton were.....uh, well, pretty crazy too, now that I really think about it.
....... maybe, actually it's NOT so much of a different meaning,after all .......I went to see some clients at Broughton hospital a while back, and noticed all sorts of different folks that might as well all been from the class of '67.........smart people, dumb people, drug addicts and alcoholics, very religious people, very fearful people, very compassionate people, cigarette smokers, tea totalers, people way out of touch with reality, people well grounded and focused on being kind and helping others.........
......Yep, it was pretty much the same scenario

...........skool wuz fun..I larned a bunch of cool stuff about girlz an all!!!!.......... I was one of the most naive kids in the whole school,I think....I mean, like, playing the clarinet in the marching band kind of nerd....and compeating with Ervin Ray for 13th place on a 12- boy Broughton tennis team kind of nerd.....a cigarette smoking looser in the locker room kind of nerd..........EARNESTLY hoping that I might have a heart attack during concert band practice so that Carol Cranor or Janice North would maybe fall in love with me.............
But, I tell you what.....discovering alcohol the summer before our senior year changed all that forever!
......the power of PBR transformed me from a nerd into a rebel without a cause and an undiscovered skill at TALKING TO GIRLS! .....no more fruity band costumes or running around in a pair of short white pants chasing a dang ball for me!.......it was dancing like a crazy person to the great sound of Larry BUTT-MAN & The Sands Band with a magically beautiful sophmore for this high school alcoholic........and when that went south, just drank some more and got me another girl prettier and nicer than the last one.........
...on the day that the professional photographer came to take pictures of every kid who was in a club or played a sport or whatever, me and Henry Litchford put on coats and ties and stood in every club photo that WE DID NOT BELONG IN , that we could find ...Man, I really loved going to Broughton .....[the magic elixer only worked for 17 more years, and I began to notice that women who I cared about were going the other way....so, I quit that stuff... and can talk to girls completely sober now!]........The End
